The chilling phrase traces its roots back to one of history's most infamous acts of treachery: the betrayal of Jesus by Judas Iscariot. In the Garden of Gethsemane, Judas identified Jesus to the Roman soldiers with a kiss—a seemingly affectionate gesture that served as the prearranged signal for his arrest and ultimate crucifixion.
