Imagine ancient astronomers, long before rockets and space probes, meticulously charting the movements of the moon and stars. They noticed the moon wasn't always the same distance from Earth, sometimes appearing slightly larger, sometimes smaller. To describe that furthest point in its celestial dance, they combined two powerful Greek words: 'apo,' meaning 'away from,' and 'gē,' for 'Earth.' Thus, "apogee" was born, a precise term for the moon's most distant reach, a concept later borrowed and broadened to describe any peak, any ultimate height, whether in the sky or in human endeavor.
